Social Studies Teacher

After college, I served years ago as a missionary to the youth of military families in Germany before becoming the Director of Financial Aid at Union Theological Seminary in Virginia and the Assistant Director of Financial Aid at the University of Richmond. I have continued taking courses in French, art, literature, history, and computer science at Elmhurst University where my husband is a professor (and former LCMS pastor). Currently, I am leading two women’s Bible studies, one at Zion Lutheran Church and trying to keep up with the reading list my husband gives me!

Teaching Philosophy:

Teaching begins with relationships, and each student in a classroom brings unique strengths and needs to the classroom. To bring out those strengths and to supplement those weaknesses requires a teacher not to talk down to a student but to encourage him or her to rise to a higher level. Of course, a contagious enthusiasm about history for a history teacher is absolutely essential, and so I may be found during off-hours devouring history books for the sheer joy of it. Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction, and these stories are true!!

Education:

BBA from the College of William and Mary in Virginia with a minor in religion
